Warner Bros. and Mattel's new Barbie movie continues to fill out its cast, with Emerald Fennell and Scott Evans among the new faces boarding the project. They'll be joining star Margot Robbie and costars Ryan Gosling, America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, and Michael Cera. Greta Gerwig is directing and co-writing the film with her partner Noah Baumbach.
Deadline reports on the new additions to a cast already brimming with strong comedic talent. Emerald Fennell is an actress (The Crown, Call the Midwife), and a filmmaker who won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for a film that could fit neatly with the ethos of this new Barbie, Promising Young Woman. Scott Evans has primarily had supporting roles in the past, such as a recurring part on Grace & Frankie and a stint on the soap One Life to Live. He's also had minor roles in a few of his brother Chris' films, such as Before We Go. Also joining the cast are comedy icon Rhea Perlman (Cheers, Matilda, Cid on Star Wars: The Bad Batch), and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Malcolm X in One Night in Miami).

The project has undergone several changes over time, originally set to be written by and star Amy Schumer, who split over creative differences. With Gerwig and Baumbach behind the wheel of the Barbie Mobile, this isn't likely to be a cheesy affair, probably more along the lines of Marriage Story than Mattel. Gerwig especially has a great track record with Lady Bird and Little Women of creating strongly feminist stories with nuanced characters, so this Barbie is bound to be no different.
