Aqua's «Barbie Girl» song reportedly won't be used in the upcoming Barbiemovie. The ubiquitous Mattel toy has seen countless animated adaptations over the years, though its journey to live-action has been a rather interesting one. The live-action Barbie movie first entered development at Sony in 2014 with Amy Schumer set to write and star, who soon exited the project due to creative differences with the studio. The Barbie movie has since landed at Warner Bros. and is shaping up to be better than many expected.
Barbie is Greta Gerwig's third feature film as a director after 2017's Lady Bird and 2019'sLittle Women, based on a script that she co-write with her frequent collaborator Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha). Margot Robbie leads the cast as the beloved blonde doll alongside Ryan Gosling as her male counterpart, Ken. America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and many more recognizable names star in undisclosed supporting roles. Will Ferrell reportedly plays the CEO of a toy company. The first look atBarbie was recently debuted at CinemaCon, offering a glimpse at Robbie in the doll's signature pink convertible.

Following the first look, audiences are ecstatic about Barbie's first live-action outing, and naturally, many have started to wonder if Aqua’s 1997 song “Barbie Girl” will be used in Gerwig's film. But alas, Variety reports that the song will not be used in the movie, according to Ulrich Møller-Jørgensen, the manager for the musical group's lead singer Lene Nystrøm. The publication also reached out to Warner Bros., who has not commented on the matter.
