Chris Evans shares a bruised and bloody behind-the-scenes photo of himself in The Gray Man. The action thriller, directed by the Russo brothers and based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name, was announced back in 2020 following a rather long development process, with plans to initiate a new franchise centered on the source material. The film follows a skilled mercenary working for the CIA who accidentally uncovers agency secrets, setting off a global manhunt instigated by a psychopathic former colleague. It is set to premiere on Netflix, following a limited release, on July 22, 2022 and features Evans and Ryan Gosling in lead roles, joining a talented cast that also includes Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodard.
Evans plays Lloyd Hanson, the associate who puts a bounty out on Gosling's Court Gentry, and his involvement in The Gray Man marks his fifth collaboration with the Russo brothers and first outside of the MCU. In speaking about the film last year, the Russos teased Evans' villain role, stating that he plays a very unique character and gets the opportunity to stretch his abilities. Netflix shared the first footage of the The Gray Man as part of its 2022 movie preview, but an official trailer has yet to be released. However, set photos have begun to surface, revealing peeks at some of the characters, including Evans, whose appearance in the film features a mustache.
