Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo tease that the action scenes of their new movie The Gray Man are relentless and nearly killed them. Based on Mark Greaney's novel of the same name, the action thriller centers on Court Gentry, the CIA's best mercenary whose true identity has been kept secret from the world, including the agency itself. When Court uncovers a web of dark secrets tying back to the CIA, he goes on the run from assassins hired by his psyopathic former colleague Lloyd Hansen.
Ryan Gosling is leading the cast of The Gray Man as Court alongside Chris Evans as Lloyd, Dhanush, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton and Alfre Woodard. Development on the film has languished for over a decade, having originally been set at New Regency with Ad Astra's James Gray attached to direct and Brad Pitt set to star, though the two would later depart and Charlize Theron would enter talks for a gender-swapped version, which also fell apart. The Russo Brothers, who were writing the Theron-led effort, officially signed on to direct in mid-2020 and write with their Avengers collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and Netflix having acquired the rights.
