Baldur's Gate 3 has a whole bunch of characters you can recruit, but none of them require you to pay a higher price than Minthara. In order to recruit her, you have to side with the Goblins in Act 1 and slaughter a bunch of Tieflings by raiding the Grove. A lot of people very much like Minthara as a character, but aren't a huge fan of having to murder countless innocents just to add her to the party.
Well, it seems that Larian has listened to the cries of those fans, using the game's latest patch to add a new way to recruit Minthara even during a good playthrough. Before this patch, players needed to maneuver their way through a series of bugs and turn the Drow into a sheep to get her into their party without killing the Tieflings, but now you can simply knock Minthara out while taking down the Goblin Camp.
Instead of using your weapons, you can now use non-lethal attacks to incapacitate her and keep her alive. Once you've resolved the Goblin Crisis, you'll be able to find Minthara at Moonrise Towers, whereas before, she fell into despair and was unable to recruit. You can then follow the standard story elements of Minthara's recruitment to add her to your party, and you'll then have a badass Drow as a companion as well as a whole camp of grateful Tieflings.
With a chonker of a patch coming in at a whopping 30GB, Larian has added a lot more than just an alternate recruitment path for Minthara. Those of you with big characters that like to romance Minthara will now be pleased to know that your smooches will look a bit better thanks to improved lip contact, as will smooches with Astarion and pretty much every character.
