OK, bear with me on this one. Baldur’s Gate 3 has been both delayed and brought forward at the same time – something which is possible without ripping a hole in the space time continuum. It will now be coming out on 3rd August for PC, and 6th September for PS5.
The originally announced plan was for both platforms to release on 31st August, but the PS5 version just needed a slight delay of around a week. Still, Larian Studios’ community manager Salomé Moreira García has been able to confirm that the game will be running at 60fps on PS5 thanks to this delay – “We don’t want to compromise on quality, and feel it would be a shame to downscale to 30fps or make other compromises to hit an arbitrary date.”
Speaking of arbitrary release dates, they’ve decided not to wait with the PC version, bringing the release forward. The game is already generally available on PC via Steam Early Access, with this full release adding all the final batch of content, fixes and plenty more.
This does mean that the marketing push for release will be split, but that’s not such an issue in this primarily digital age. It will also help them jump ahead of the typically very busy period from September through to Christmas.
As for other platforms, Larian is just taking their time and making sure they’re ready as and when. A full Mac version will be coming at a later date, and they’re still “optimistic” about Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Xbox Series. However, before they formally announce this they “need to ensure that the game is performing without compromise across the entire Xbox X|S ecosystem, in multiplayer and with split-screen. We already put a lot of effort into making it work and will continue to do so.”
