Mortal Kombat 1 Lin Kuei trailer introduces Rain, Smoke and others

Mortal Kombat 1 has a new trailer that is focused on the Lin Kuei, and their mission to protect Earthrealm. Scorpion and Sub Zero are shown as working together, but they are not the only characters. In the new trailer, Smoke joins Scorpion and Sub Zero on their quest. He is not the only one as Rain, Cyrax, Frost, and Sektor were also all revealed in the new trailer. There is some gameplay in the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, along with a bit more story.

The narrative behind Mortal Kombat 1 sees the fire god Liu Kang remaking the Mortal Kombat universe, allowing NetherRealm to reimagine the series’ classic cast of characters – Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung and Johnny Cage have been confirmed so far, but more are coming. With this being a rebooted universe, there’s plenty room for NetherRealm to play with the timelines, the interplay between characters and more.

Kameo Fighters are a new gameplay element, picking extra characters from a wider roster that can be drawn upon, lending some of their abilities to your main character in the regular game. There’s some playful elements here, extending beyond the main roster and with plenty of nods to the older games.

A game beta will be held in August, with access to this granted to those who pre-order the game, as well as getting Shang Tsung as a playable character. The Premium Edition and Kollector’s Editions will also feature a Kombat Pack that includes a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage – that’s weird considering that Van Damme is actually Guile from the Street Fighter movie.
