Forget all of the branching paths and RPG combat mechanics - the best part of Baldur's Gate 3 is being able to kiss your love interest on command. Admittedly, the feature has been pretty basic, as everyone shared the same kissing animation - until now.
Patch 4 gave Karlach and Halsin lovers unique smooching scenes, better fitting their characters. Now, it turns out that the update could be gearing up to implement even more snogging animations, as one fan finds traces of them in the patch's code. If we're reading the new lines of code correctly, then Gale, Wyll, Shadowheart, Astarion and Lae'zel are next up to get this treatment, making their romance scenes feel a bit more unique.
This discovery comes courtesy of Twitter user @AmihanTheStoic. In the Patch 4 files they share, we can see references to different kinds of kisses that can play out, going from version A through D. While we don't have a screenshot of what the dev notes say for each kiss, @AmihanTheStoic says that they are labelled as the following: Basic, Don't tease me, Grateful, and Chin Up.
The latest Baldur's Gate 3 patch changed far more than a few kisses. Among its many fixes, it also made Lae'zel harder to woo. No longer, can you convince her to share a bedroll with you two minutes into starting the game.
Screenshots of the code for Astarion and Wyll's kisses have also been shared, showing four different types of kisses. In Wyll's, it seems that any of these can play out when you ask him for a quick smooch in dialogue, perhaps randomising what we get each time.
