Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting a competitive multiplayer fighting game next year. Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series introduced a world comprised of four different nations, each one modeled after four basic elements that can be controlled by certain people known as “Benders.” At the heart of the show’s story is Aang, the titular Avatar who can command all four elements, and his growing group of friends who must work together to stop the oppressive Fire Nation from conquering the world.
Avatar: The Last Airbender ran for three seasons on Nickelodeon, earning widespread acclaim for its rich setting and surprisingly deep plot and narrative themes. There have been numerous Avatar video games of varying quality over the years, with the most recent one being 2023’s ill-received Avatar The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance. Various Avatar characters have also appeared in crossover titles like the Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 series and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, including a few from the sequel series, The Legend of Korra.
Earlier this week, publisher and distributor Maximum Games released its roadmap for 2024 on its official YouTube channel, as reported by Gematsu. During this, it announced that it has entered a partnership with Paramount Consumer Products to develop a competitive multiplayer game set in the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Maximum CEO Christina Seelye said that this game will be released in Early Access in 2025, but gave no other details about its developer or what platforms it will be available on.
This newly-announced Avatar: The Last Airbender game is coming just as the franchise has reentered the public zeitgeist, thanks to several different projects coming in the next few years.
