In retro news, I'm celebrating the 21st birthday of Outrun 2, the closest Sega got to arcade racer perfection. Essentially, the essence of the 1986 original—going flat out in a Ferrari with some rad tunes on your radio, a romantic prospect riding shotgun, and branching scenery whipping past—was modernised with a new emphasis on sublime drifting and six more prancing ponies in your stable. My mates and I spent a ludicrous amount of coins in the multiplayer-linked cabinets of this. It's a sin that the ports and sequels of this have been delisted everywhere.
