Keeping track of all the latest video games coming out is an increasingly complex task, what with multiple PC storefronts, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, mobile, and more to keep track of, but don’t worry, I’m here to help. Every month I'll be running down the games you need to be keeping an eye on, from the AAA headliners to the indies you might otherwise overlook.
August is actually a bit of a sleeper month, with Armored Core VI, Baldur’s Gate III, and a pair of promising AA titles in Atlas Fallen and Immortals of Aveum launchings. Meanwhile, on the indie front we’ve got the teen dino drama Goodbye Volcano high, Unreal Engine 5 sci-fi shocker Fort Solis, Pokemon-meets-Diablo mashup Adore, and more.
Note: While I may have played demos or got early access to some of the games recommended in this article, in most cases I’m simply choosing games that look promising, and can’t vouch for the end product. Do wait for reviews before buying!
That said, here are the games you should be looking out for in August…
Baldur's Gate III (PC, Aug. 3; PS5, Sept. 5)
Coming from Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate III looks to be one of the most ambitious CRPGs in years. A huge world, epic story, player freedom, and yes, bear sex, awaits. Baldur’s Gate III has spent some time in early access and gathered plenty of fans just based on its first act (of three) so the full game has the potential to be something special. Get your summer activities in now, because you won’t be seeing sunlight for a while after this one comes out. You can pre-order Baldur’s Gate III here.
Atlas Fallen (PC, Xbox Series X/S & PS5, Aug. 10)
Coming from Deck13, the original developers of Lords of the Fallen and The Surge series, comes Atlas Fallen.
