Armored Core 6, just like the majority of FromSoftware's titles, is a pretty depressing game at the best of times. Almost everyone in the game is using you to further their own cause, and you're more than happy to take their credits so you can strap another laser rifle to your shoulder. That's probably why when V.IV Rusty shows up to help you out in the mission Operation Wallclimber, most of you are immediately smitten by his charm.
Despite having only launched less than a week ago, fans of Armored Core 6 have already declared Rusty the game's best boy, mostly down to the fact that he's pretty much the only person in the game that actually shows an inkling of kindness towards you. You'll find mutliple posts about the guy on the game's subreddit, most of them accompanied by a meme of some kind declaring their love for him, and how much they enjoy being called "Buddy" instead of by a code or a disrespectful nickname.

It also helps that Rusty has some of the game's coolest moments and accompanies you on the game's final mission if you make the correct choices. Of course, I won't spoil the game here in case any of you reading are still battling your way through Rubicon, and you definitely won't want to look at the replies to any of these Reddit post as there's some pretty spoiler-havey discussions going on.
I will give you the general thoughts of the fanbase on Rusty though, as u/theredskjyking says that the character "fills me with hope".
