One of James Gunn’s trademark outrageous jokes in Peacemaker might well have caused a problem for the MCU, if Namor actually joins in Phase 4, as he's expected to. Because while the DCEU’s Aquaman — who turns up for the Justice League’s controversial Peacemaker cameo — doesn’t have a fish fetish, the MCU’s sea-ruling hero, Namor, actually does. And Marvel is considerably less likely to make a joke about it than DC allowed Gunn to.
Peacemaker was full of jokes at the expense of DC’s elite superheroes. John Cena’s antihero mocked Batman, claimed Superman has a poop fetish, and said Wonder Woman had “wanted him”. But it was Green Arrow and Aquaman who received the most vicious barbs with the former accused of being a perverted Brony and the latter was revealed to have sexual relations with fish. John Economos even seemed to confirm both of those rumors to be true, particularly the one about Green Arrow’s Brony con activities.

While it’s quite surprising that DC allowed Gunn to take potshots at the Justice League (Green Arrow is less of an ongoing concern), the real losers here are Marvel. With Namor widely expected to be in Black Panther 2, they have their own undersea hero who tends to attack the same lazy jokes. But unfortunately for Marvel, they can’t bat it away as a joke or lean into it as Peacemaker did, because Namor actually did have sex with fish. And as Peacemaker confirmed, that’s not really an easy thing to accept with a straight face.
