Last year, it was announced that Apex Legends and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be crossing over, something which was rather unexpected but welcomed by fans of both titles. Now that the crossover is here, sentiment among the Apex Legends fanbase has quickly gone from excitement to pure fury, as many are voicing their anger over the monetization of the crossover event.
In particular, most of the ire is directed at a unique Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Death Box that has been added to the game. Death Boxes are items that drop when players die that are full of the loot they picked up over the course of a game, and the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover event gives this box a One-Winged Angel-themed skin that also plays sound effects and music.
The only problem is that to earn this Death Box skin, you actually need to grab every single one of the game's 36 crossover cosmetic items on offer. These are available to purchase through event packs, which cost 1,000 coins or around $10, and the items you do get can't be duplicated, meaning you'll get a new one every time. You probably don't need me to do the math for you, but that means to actually get this Death Box, you need to spend roughly $360.
You can probably imagine the reactions of Apex Legends fans, who have been doing nothing but voicing their anger on social media and the crossover's announcement trailer on YouTube, specifically over the Death Box and the incredibly low drop rate for the Buster Sword R5.
