An Apex Legends player in an all-women tournament was accused of transphobia leading to the disqualification of a team with trans players. That disqualification was later rescinded and the team remains in contention for a $100,000 grand prize. The team accused of transphobia, however, was later disqualified after the incident was investigated.
Twitch Affiliate Sani of Team Vexxx detailed the situation in a lengthy Twitter thread on May 18. According to her, "A known transphobic member of the Apex community reached out to the admins to spread rumors and false statements about my teammate's identity, post-verification." The admins of the Her Galaxy tournament then disqualified the player later than evening.

According to an investigation by Kotaku, the Her Galaxy tournament is open to trans women and only required a piece of government-issued ID and preferred pronouns to enter. The Team Vexxx member, who goes by Gabe and she/they pronouns, confirmed to Her Galaxy's administration that while her government ID didn't match her stated pronouns, she was assured that wouldn't be a problem for entering the tournament.
"They understood my circumstances, they knew I couldn’t go change my government identity because of me potentially getting kicked out of my house," explained Gabe to Kotaku.
Following news of Team Vexxx's disqualification, the Her Galaxy community erupted in accusations of transphobia. One Apex player named Ira noted that a particular player named wondernikki made transphobic comments live on stream and repeatedly misgendered Gabe.
