The game's Happy Home Paradise DLC lets players decorate vacation homes for villagers, and also added a host of new decoration options for players to utilize in their own homes. These new design methods have been used by players in a myriad of creative ways to make unique in-game layouts.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC release coincided with the release of the game's huge 2.0 update in November of 2021, both of which added new characters and items to the game. Additions from Happy Home Paradise included counters, partition walls, and accent walls. The Animal Crossing 2.0 update was the largest in the game's history, bringing things like Brewster's Cafe to the museum, an update to Harv's Island, and over 9,000 new Animal Crossing items to the game.

Reddit user shakeber shared a clever Animal Crossing: New Horizons design this week, creating the illusion of stairs in their home. The user utilized the Stair Dresser item, which was added in the 2.0 update, deftly placed slightly behind a partition wall to create the design. The player made an entire front door area surrounding the design to make the illusion more complete, including a pattern that creates the look of a front door, shoes on the ground, a coatrack, a bike, and a bundle of newspapers. A pattern placed on the ground looks like a long entryway rug, furthering the illusion even more.
