Players who have been around since the beginning have gone from being just another villager to the mayor to maintaining an entire island. The player's role has shifted from being «the new guy» who occasionally got bullied by the other villagers to being the one who runs the community. The player now has a position of power, making any decisions and changes to their Animal Crossing experience that they want, whether villagers like it or not.

Reddit user acnh_kaylee turned their island into a giant plot of farmland, complete with the villagers as livestock. With rabbits left to roam free while the ducks, chickens, and pigs are kept in their pens, acnh-kaylee gave everything a natural farm-like feel. This attention to detail includes wooden posts and wire fences around the homes of the «livestock» animals. Each animal enclosure has the inhabitants living in charming rustic wooden houses, with plenty of wheat fields all around them.
