With a US reboot of Anaconda still dragging its feet, China has decided to beat them to the punch with a brand new Anaconda remake trailer.
It’s not the same beast however, because this time, a circus troupe are the unlucky souls who get the squeeze from a monster snake. Well, that, and there’s a definite tonal shift from the 1997 monster movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube. Somehow this looks several levels hammier.
Watch the Anaconda remake trailer below to get a sense of what this is like.
A group of circus performers, on their way to what they think is a new performance location, become stranded in a lush rainforest after the boat they were on, and the captain leading the way, are eaten and destroyed by an anaconda with a special red marking.
They cross paths with a deadly poacher hunting the anaconda, who realizes that he might now have enough bait to catch him. But being circus performers, they have a few survival tricks up their sleeves.
Audiences outside Asia might have to wait to see this snake in action as there’s no set release date for the West as it stands.
The Anaconda remake stars Terence Yin, Nita Xia, Paul Che, Jiu Kong, Ken Lok, Wang Xing Chen, Wang Gang, Wang Zi Run, Xu Shao Hang, and Wu Hao.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the Anaconda reboot by The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican was going to take a meta approach to its story and have a group of actors filming an Anaconda movie stumble upon the real thing.
