The Epic Mega Sale, an annual sale on certain games in the Epic Games Store, has just begun. The discounts and deals will last four weeks — from May 16, starting at 11 am ET, to June 13 at 11 am ET — promising an “enormous range of discounts across the Epic Games Store’s library,” according to PR.
First and foremost, Dragon Age: Inquisition is the free game released today alongside the launch of the Epic Mega Sale. It’s an open world fantasy RPG that got great reviews (including at Polygon) upon its release in 2014 and still serves as a reminder of the storytelling chops associated with Bioware games at that time.
So, that game’s free — the others in the Epic Mega Sale are simply getting some decent discounts. Here’s the list of games that will receive price cuts during the sale: Alan Wake 2 (at 20% off, it costs $39.99), Expeditions: A MudRunner Game (also 20% off, it’s now $31.99), Skull and Bones (discounted by 50% to $29.99), Dead Island 2 (also 50% off and $29.99), and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (down to 29.99%, which is 40% off).
If you want some advice on which games to choose, you can’t go wrong with Alan Wake 2, a nail-biting horror masterpiece about a hacky horror author named Alan Wake who’s been transported to a dark dimension full of ghosts and otherworldly creepies. There is, of course, nothing more terrifying than a bad book review, but the ghosts in this game seem to freak Alan Wake out pretty hard too (they’re quite scary!).
If that sounds too stressful for your tastes, let us then recommend Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, an impeccably designed Metroidvania with tight melee-focused combat, as well as some seriously challenging but rewarding platforming puzzles. The game’s difficulty modes allow you to skip or dial back just about anything you can’t handle, which is nice because the story is surprisingly good for a game in a genre that’s typically focused on just exploration and combat.
