Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies to date, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed.
In a press release addressing the game’s sales performance, the studio says the game had sold 1 million units by the end of December 2023, and was sitting at 1.3 million units sold by the beginning of February 2024.
It also notes that this makes Alan Wake 2 the fastest-selling game Remedy has released to date.
“By comparison, Alan Wake 2 sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months,” Remedy says, noting that Control has now sold over 4 million copies since its release in 2019.
“A great game can generate excellent long tail sales, and we expect this to be the case with Alan Wake 2 as well,” Remedy says.
“We will continue promoting and supporting Alan Wake 2 and are creating two paid DLCs that will expand the story. We are also releasing updates and carrying out other activities to support the game and its community.”
In a separate statement, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala said the success of Alan Wake 2 has had a positive effect on development of its other projects, due to the reallocation of staff.
“The successful launch of Alan Wake 2 has supported our other game projects,” Virtala explained. “Condor, Control 2 and Max Payne 1 & 2 remake have all increased development pace thanks to the personnel released from Alan Wake 2, and we expect these projects to reach their next development stages during the first half of 2024.”
VGC declared Alan Wake 2 our game of the year for 2023, saying: “In one of the best years ever for video games, Alan Wake 2 manages to stand alone.”
At The Game Awards 2023, Alan Wake 2 won the awards for Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Narrative.
