During today's Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live event, Microsoft announced that Age of Empires 4 Anniversary Edition is available on Xbox starting today.
As revealed by Microsoft, the console version of the latest Age of Empires entry offers Xbox controller optimizations, a console-specific user interface as well as new tutorials designed for first-time players. In addition, those who prefer to play the game directly with a keyboard and mouse can do so. Down below you'll find the game's announcement trailer for Xbox.
On Xbox Series X|S, players will be able to play Age of Empires IV with up to seven friends in PvP or PvE, and with up to three friends on Xbox One. The Xbox Series X and S versions target up to 60FPS up to 4K and 1080p respectively. On Xbox One X, the game runs in up to 1440p whereas the Xbox One Versions runs in up to 900p and is optimized for 30FPS.
Age of Empires 4 is available globally now on Xbox consoles and PC. The game is also available through Game Pass. The game was initially released for PC in late 2021. Here's what we wrote about the RTS in our launch review:
"Age of Empires IV is, in almost every way, a true sequel to Age of Empires II", we wrote. "It plays great and has a few new features that add more tactical elements to combat and how you develop your faction. On factions, it truly allows them to differentiate themselves from each other. There are slight issues, such as the population cap that feels very restrictive and the lower-quality of unit models, but these are minor in what is an otherwise outstanding game, and one where an undeniable amount of effort and work has gone into - which includes hours of documentary-style clips to support the campaign."
