The Mortal Kombat franchise has a long history of introducing post-launch guest characters from across media, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 will be doing that as well, with DC’s Peacemaker, Invincible’s Omni-Man, and The Boys’ Homelander set to be added as DLC fighters following the game’s release.
And not only are those three not-so-heroic superheroes going to look like their TV counterparts, they’re going to sound like them as well. Well, some of them, at least.
NetherRealm Studios boss and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon confirmed in a recent interview with IGN that John Cena, who plays Peacemaker in the DC Universe, will be voicing the character again for Mortal Kombat 1. Previously, it was confirmed that Omni-Man, too, will be voiced by his original actor, J.K. Simmons. Whether or not that means we can expect The Boys actor Antony Starr to voice Homelander for the DLC remains to be seen.
Recently, Boon also spoke about the similarities between Homelander and Omni-Man’s powers and abilities, reassuring fans that they won’t just be clones of each other when they appear in Mortal Kombat 1, in terms of how they play.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Make sure to read up about its newly-revealed single player board game-style RPG mode, Invasions.
