The creators of an eagerly anticipated mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered say they’ve been made to cancel it by Activision.
H2M is a mod for Modern Warfare Remastered that was set to be released on Friday, and promised a refreshed take on the multiplayer portion of the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
The mod was set to feature over 50 maps, and would also include an updated progression system, as well as new attachments and camos that weren’t featured in the original game. Modern Warfare 2’s original suite of killsteaks were also being included as part of the mod.
However, in a short statement posted on X – just five hours after posting a trailer hyping up its release – the mod’s creators have announced that the release has been cancelled.
“Today, our team members received a cease and desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project,” it wrote.
“We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.”
The mod, which was to require the base game of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, was gathering so much hype that it made the game shoot up to the top of the Steam charts, going as high as fourth at one point.
The mod was set to combine the maps that were already included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered alongside the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maps that the modders had brought forward from the original game.
