Nintendo has announced a Switch OLED Mario Red Edition console.
Confirming an earlier leak, the console was officially revealed during a Nintendo Direct live stream on Thursday.
It will launch on October 6, two weeks before Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Today’s 15-minute Nintendo Direct presentation, which can be rewatched in full below, provided an in-depth look at the upcoming Switch exclusive ahead of its release on October 20.
Announced in June, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first original 2D Mario side-scrolling game in over a decade. Its new gimmick is the Wonder Flower, which transforms each stage in a different way.
During its latest quarterly financial results briefing this month, Nintendo said Switch’s global lifetime sales stood at 129.53 million by the mid-point of 2023.
Driven by the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo shipped 3.91 million Switch units during the three-month period ended in June, which was up 13.9% year-over-year.

Nintendo forecasts it will sell 15 Switch million consoles during the current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024, which would represent a 16.5% year-over-year decline.
According to VGC sources, the company has dispatched Switch 2 development kits to key partners, with a launch planned for the second half of 2024. Officially, Nintendo is yet to comment on plans for its next console.
