Marvel 2099 is an imprint launched in 1992 which featured stories set in a dystopian, cyberpunk-influenced future (Earth-928) where megacorporations rule the world and North America is a cruel police state. The most successful character was Spider-Man 2099, the first «superhero» to appear in this age, who fought against the ruthless corporation called Alchemax. The character was so successful that Spider-Man 2099 is set to appear in Across The Spider-Verse. The X-Men of 2099 also appeared, but the most famous of Marvel superhero teams, the Avengers, never made their debut in the 2099 universe before the imprint was discontinued.
