Apple discontinued its 13-inch MacBook Pro model and replaced it with a slightly expensive 14-inch MacBook Pro with a mini-LED display. While the new design and powerful internals are welcome, the company only offered 8GB of RAM. The internet quickly reacted as 8GB of RAM on a $1,600 notebook does not make sense. The company claimed that 8GB of RAM performance is comparable to 16GB on rival computers. However, real-world tests reveal that the performance of the M3 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM is not even close to the 16GB model.
The base 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro is priced at $1,599 before taxes. It appears the company is charging a hefty price tag based on the new design instead of the internals. The base model of the MacBook Pro houses internals comparable to the MacBook Air, which diminishes the purpose of a 'Pro' moniker. According to a new test conducted by Max Tech, YouTuber Vadim Yuryev puts the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro through a series of real-world scenarios. The results reveal that the 8GB M3 MacBook Pro is up to 4 times slower than the 16GB variant.
The M3 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM was significantly slower than the 16GB variant when performing heavier workloads, including editing and ProRes rendering. In Cinebench benchmarks, the 8GB model suffered a double-digit loss against the 16GB model. It took the 8GB five times longer to complete the photo-merging task in Photoshop. It also took the 8GB M3 MacBook Pro five times longer to export media in Final Cut Pro and Adobe Lightroom Classis.
The tests were conducted in typical multitasking scenarios with various tabs opened like email, spreadsheet, YouTube videos, and more. In the single operation test, the gap was not as wide, but the 8GB model still took quite a bit of
