A three-part demo of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is coming to Nintendo Switch.
Starting on August 20, players can download the episodic demo to play through the Prologue and Chapter 1.
Two further chapters will be automatically added to the demo – Chapter 2 on August 23 and Chapter 3 on August 28. Players can carry their progress forward to the full version of the game if purchased.
“In Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, a student has been found dead in a chilling fashion, his head covered with a paper bag with an eerie smiling face drawn on it,” a synopsis for the game reads.
“This unsettling visage bears a striking resemblance to a recurring clue in a string of unsolved murders from 18 years ago, as well as Emio (the Smiling Man), a killer of urban legend who is said to grant his victims ‘a smile that will last forever.’”
Players take on the role of an assistant private investigator with Utsugi Detective Agency, where they’re are tasked with helping police solve this crime.
“Along the way, scrutinize the clues and testimonies you gather for potential connections to the gruesome events of the past,” Nintendo says,
Famicom Detective Club is a pair of murder mystery games that were originally released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan in the late ’80s.
The Smiling Man follows the previously released first and second instalments in the series, which were remade for Nintendo Switch.
