Meta is working to bring a new Ghostbusters game to virtual reality.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg dropped a teaser video for the upcoming title today during a Meta Quest gaming showcase event.
The trailer, which seems to be pre-rendered footage, shows the player investigating paranormal activity inside a dark building. The player then takes out an iconic P.K.E. meter from the Ghostbusters film franchise to track down the culprit.
Another segment shows the player confronting the ghost with three friends, all of whom are wearing proton packs. They then turn on the proton packs and use them to blast the ghost.
The upcoming project comes from Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and nDreams, a UK VR developer, which describes the Ghostbusters game as an “action adventure campaign” that’ll let you play with up to three friends.
“Run your own Ghostbusters HQ in a new city, San Francisco, and solve a gripping mystery in the latest chapter of the Ghostbusters universe,” nDreams said in the announcement. “Wield iconic tools and weaponry as you chase, blast, and trap ghosts across the city, either solo or with friends through cooperative play.”
The campaign also promises to pack both comedy and frights like the Ghostbusters films have, in addition to plenty of nostalgia. “This game will give the ultimate wish-fulfillment of catching ghosts in true Ghostbuster fashion,” added Chris Jurney, a director of publishing at Meta.
For now, nDreams is using Ghostbusters VR as the working title. The company plans on sharing more details in the coming months. No release date was given, but the game will be available for the Meta Quest 2 headset, which starts at $299.
