While it may not be in the best state right now, what with the backlash to the Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific map and the general apathy aimed at Call of Duty: Vanguard, there's no denying that Call of Duty is a juggernaut franchise. And while it may not be quite as hot as it once was, that could very well change later this year as Activision plans on launching the highly-anticipated sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In its Q1 financial report, Activision offered some additional, albeit vague, insight into its plans for 2022's Call of Duty game. The 2022 Call of Duty, as previously announced, will be a sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, itself the biggest game in the Call of Duty franchise to date. Activision is hyping the new game as being the «most advanced» Call of Duty game that its ever produced, and needless to say, it will be exciting to see what exactly that entails.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel isn't the only Call of Duty game on the horizon that Activision touched on in its report. It also mentioned that there will be a new free-to-play Warzone experience for players to check out as well, one that is being «built from the ground-up alongside the premium game.» This Call of Duty: Warzone sequel is said to have «groundbreaking innovations» that will be revealed later this year.
There have been rumors that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be next-gen only, leaving the original Warzone experience on PS4 and Xbox One, though that has yet to be clarified.
