The Super Mario Bros. Movie is on track to make one billion dollars at the international box office, going by projections, and bolstering its position as the most successful video game movie adaptation of all time. Nintendo and Illumination's silver screen transformation of perhaps gaming's most iconic character has boosted the popular imagination accordingly, and now other Nintendo favourites are in consideration for the movie treatment—at least among the fans.
Over on ResetEra, a thread ran a poll on a possible Legend of Zelda movie. The question it posed was not about a particular game but the overall style of such an adaptation. "Which 'style' would you like for a The Legend of Zelda movie?" it asked. The options pointed to how Nintendo have varied the visual look of the series over the years, with different entries, similar to Final Fantasy in a way, going for a more realistic style or more stylised.

There were only two choices, a "Serious" style in the vein of Twilight Princess or Breath of the Wild, or "Cartoony" in the style of Wind Waker or Spirit Tracks. The poll didn't run for very long but still managed to attract a decent number of votes, and the majority of voters went with the serious style, with 60.7 percent siding with a more realistic looking Link. Out of 183 voters, 111 went with Serious, while 72 votes were in favour of Cartoony (39.3 percent).
As you can see in the above image, Link has had very different looks. Wind Waker famously went with a cel-shaded style, giving its protagonist and world a cartoony look, that was not short of charm. Critically praised, the game did come with some controversy as some fans were not happy with the graphics.
