The head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty has said that triple-A titles now take much longer to make than before.
Speaking to Axios, the exec said that blockbuster games now have development times of between four to six years rather than the previous two or three years. This change is due to how much more complex modern triple-A titles are, as well as graphical benchmarks to hit.
“I think that the industry and the fans were a little behind the curve on sort of a reset to understand that games aren't two or three years anymore,” Booty said.
"They're four and five and six years.”
Speaking about graphical pressures, he continued: “There are higher expectations. The level of fidelity that we're able to deliver just goes up."
