This statement has amused the gaming community greatly, especially considering how toxic brand loyalty in the name of the console wars has been for years now. In fact, the console war rhetoric has risen even more since Microsoft began the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard - only for it to turn out that the big bosses don't think much of it at all.

"The console wars is a social construct with the community," says Spencer, giving evidence on the second day of the FTC trial.
He goes on to remind the FTC that Microsoft is hardly winning this theoretical console war too: "If you look at at our market share in the console space in the last 20+ years, we're in third place."
This statement is quite the departure from how gaming enthusiasts discuss the gaming market, which can often feel more like picking a sports team and sticking by it ride or die. In giving evidence, Spencer not only downplays the console wars as a whole, but also says that Xbox is failing on multiple metrics, including console sales and big exclusive game releases. Of course, this isn't too surprising, since Spencer is trying to get the Activision Blizzard deal over the line, which will involve arguing that Xbox is nowhere close to monopolising the gaming market.
