Turtle WoW, a private World of Warcraft server, is bringing WoW into the modern era with an Unreal Engine 5 upgrade.
Based on Vanilla WoW and offering a Classic+ experience, the unofficial server is free to play and has been active since around 2018. The upcoming 2.0 version of the server will not only introduce a full on fan made expansion titled Mysteries of Azeroth, but also the ability to play the game in Unreal Engine 5.
For those still on low spec PCs, the team will offer a “Legacy Mode” with classic lighting, while those with more capable systems can enjoy the game in “Modern Mode” with all the new bells and whistles. In addition, the game will feature Android and ARM support, compatibility with 1.12.1 vanilla add ons, a new and improved anti-cheat, DLSS/FSR support, ultrawide support, and even a photo mode.
On the content side of things, the Mysteries of Azeroth expansion will add High Elves for Alliance and Goblins for Horde, new zones, additional class and race combinations, new raids and dungeons, arenas and battlegrounds, and tons more.
As ambitious as this all is, the server’s developers appear to claim it will be ready for a 2025 release.
