Film and TV streaming giant Netflix is in the process of creating its own cloud games platform.
Word that the tech giant was "seriously exploring" such an endeavour broke in October of last year. Now – as reported by The Verge – Netflix's VP of external games Leanne Loombe (pictured) has said that the project is "underway."
The exec did warn that the company was taking a "super thoughtful" approach to the service, perhaps hoping to not end up like Google's Stadia platform.
“We are very early in that side of our journey,” Loombe said. “We do believe that cloud gaming will enable us to provide that easy access to games on any screen and be frictionless and provide the accessibility into gaming experiences.”
Netflix jumped with both feet into games back in 2021 with the appointment of EA and Facebook vet Mike Verdu to head up this new business. The streaming giant has since acquired Oxenfree maker Night School Studio and hired Scopely Amir Rahimi alumnus to head up its game studios.
Though Netflix's games business has previously been reserved for mobile titles on its smartphone app, the company does appear to have a triple-A PC project in the works.
