A newly revealed variant cover for Dark Knights of Steel #6 from artist Joshua Middleton highlights the terrifying aloofness of Wonder Woman's murderous lover, Zala Jor-El. Dark Knights of Steel is an Elseworlds-style story that takes place in a medieval fantasy version of the DC Universe, with sets the stage for Zala to make some truly brutal kills throughout the series.
Kryptonian's always have the capacity for great violence, and it turns out that putting a bunch of wildly powerful alien beings in a medieval world filled with swords and dragons does not make them more peaceful. While Kal-El upholds the values of virtue and peace he espouses in the Prime Earth continuity, it is quickly established that Zala, Superman's sister in this world, has no such moral boundaries. Zala was trained by the Amazons, and it is clear that a Kryptonian with Amazonian training is a truly deadly and destructive recipe.

In a post on Twitter, Tom Taylor, the writer for Dark Knights of Steel — which is drawn by Yasmine Putri — shared the truly gorgeous variant cover for Dark Knights of Steel #6, which comes from Joshua Middleton. Middleton, who was nominated for a 2004 Eisner Award for «Best Cover Artist,» is known for his cover work on NYX, Aquaman, and New Mutants, and has now created a truly terrifying portrait of Zala Jor-El. The composition, movement, and color of Middleton's Zala variant cover are all stunning, and come together to depict a disquieting vision of the Amazon Kryptonian.
