A new update to Windows 11 will add Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing to the taskbar.
The ChatGPT-integrated Bing will arrive alongside several new features coming to Windows 11 in a security update slated for next month.
The new Bing should pop up on the taskbar through an icon within the search box. “Now with the new AI-powered Bing front and center to this experience you will be empowered to find the answers you’re looking for, faster than ever before,” Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay said in the announcement(Opens in a new window).
Users with eligible devices running Windows 11, version 22H2 will receive the new features. But it doesn’t look like Microsoft is opening access to the new Bing to everyone who installs the update. Panay’s blog post mentions needing to join the waitlist for AI-powered Bing, which is currently only available to select users as a preview.
For now, the AI-powered Bing is available to those enrolled in the preview through the desktop Bing site, the Edge browser, and certain Microsoft mobile apps. The company has muzzled some of chatbot’s capabilities due to the bizarre emotional responses it could make during long conversations. But while Microsoft irons out the kinks, the company hopes to eventually roll out the new Bing to all users across the globe.
The upcoming Windows 11 update will also finally add a default screen-recording function to the operating system’s Snipping Tool, which previously could only capture screen images.
“To use the screen recorder functionality, you can search and launch Snipping Tool through Search on the taskbar and select record,” Microsoft said. The tool can also be quickly accessed by hitting Windows key + Shift key + S.
