Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega aren't building towards a main-event level program, but you wouldn't know that based on the war of words the two have been having recently. During the build to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Omega took some veiled shots at Ospreay, continuing a beef that has been going on for the better part of three years.
Both men, when healthy, can claim to be the best professional wrestler on the planet, and both men, on some nights, will be right. When Omega left NJPW in 2019, he says that he knew the company would fall to Ospreay and Jay White as the top gaijin wrestlers in the promotion. In his recent interview with Fightful, he said that he prefers the way Switchblade has operated over the last few years while stating that Ospreay "has a list of 20 very forgettable five-star matches."

Ospreay was recently on the Wrestle Inn show and was asked about these specific comments from Omega. "He's only doing it because… he's got to try and save face. You clearly saw his true colors there. He wanted to bury me..." The NJPW star continued with a somewhat shocking revelation. "Even speaking of the AEW things, this is only because I hang around with the boys afterward and we're all smokin' and talking s*** and apparently, the rumor was, is I was meant to be [in AEW], like, a year ago. Just doing some «Forbidden Door» stuff. But somebody's put the block on it. And it doesn't take two and two to realize who it is..."
