Taking place on June 26 and broadcasting live on pay-per-view from the United Center in Chicago, Forbidden Door featured a handful of high-end matches between AEW and NJPW wrestlers. AEW and NJPW scrambled to put together a tournament that would lead to the creation of an interim AEW World Championship, which would be awarded at the pay-per-view.
