The latest franchise installment Scream 2022 is filled with narrative twists, but its best one will go down as a glaring mistake in hindsight. Scream 2022 opened to rave reviews in January 2022, being praised by critics as honoring the late horror master Wes Craven's legacy while offering thoughtful meta-commentary on modern horror films. This cultural introspection extends to its own status as a Scream sequel, with several of the film's twists designed to poke fun at the genre within which Scream 2022 is firmly housed.
Box office-hitScream 2022 undoubtedly dips into the considerable reservoir of nostalgia and adoration that the original Scream commands, bringing back several legacy characters to the fore of its story. Franchise stalwarts Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) all return to thwart Ghostface once again, while Skeet Ulrich's incomparable Billy Loomis is also brought back as an eerie figment of his daughter Sam Carpenter's (Melissa Barrera) imagination. There are even voice cameos for several other main characters from the original Scream, with fan-favorite Matthew Lillard returning to voice the fictional Stab 8's Ghostface after being heavily linked to make a franchise return as Stu Macher (the first Ghostface).
