Paramount and Spyglass Media are officially moving forward with Scream 6 and is planning to begin filming the horror sequel this summer. The slasher franchise first launched in 1996 with the Wes Craven-helmed eponymous film centered on Sidney Prescott in the small California town of Woodsboro as she is targeted by an unknown assailant wearing a Ghostface costume. Scream's success would spawn a franchise of four sequels and a TV series on MTV, which featured no ties to the stories of the movies.
The latest installment, simply entitled Scream, picked up a decade after the fourth film as Woodsboro comes under attack from a new person wearing the Ghostface costume and primarily targeting Sam Carpenter, a woman with ties to the town's deadly past. The renewed killings capture the attention of original protagonists, David Arquette's Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers and Neve Campbell's Sidney, bringing them all back in an effort to put the attacks to a stop for good. The new Scream, hailing from Ready or Not group Radio Silence, has been a critical and commercial success since its release in January and it appears to only just be the start.
