Hulu announced a 20-episode revival of the animated sci-fi sitcom Futurama, but fans are divided about the impending return. Set in 31st century "New New York," Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's cult classic show follows pizza delivery boy Philip J. Fry (Billy West) after he wakes up from a 1000-year-long cryogenic sleep. In the future, he joins the Planet Express delivery team that includes the purple-haired, one-eyed sewer mutant Leela (Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy), alcoholic robot Bender (John DiMaggio, Adventure Time), Decapodian alien Dr. John Zoidberg (Billy West), Amy Wong (Lauren Tom), Hermes Conrad (Phil LaMarr) and Fry's distant nephew Professor Hubert Farnsworth (Billy West). Futurama received critical success and many accolades during its run, including a Nebula award nomination for David A. Goodman's season 4, episode 11 script «Where No Fan Has Gone Before.»
Looking at every time Futurama was canceled, the Hulu revival won't be the only time the show comes back. Futurama premiered in 1999 on Fox and ran for four seasons before its first cancellation. Cartoon Network then bought syndication rights for Futurama and ran it on Adult Swim, where fans revived interest in the show. Producers recognized that the viewer interest Futurama was seeing matched a similar revival to another show Adult Swim picked up, Family Guy, and decided to release four straight-to-DVD movies. Futurama then ran on Comedy Central from 2010 to 2013.
