The thirteenth and final season of King of the Hill was treated shabbily by FOX, but their upcoming revival presents an opportunity to make amends. Although ostensibly a spinoff of a character that debuted on Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill ended up becoming a series almost entirely unlike that prior creation of Mike Judge. King of the Hill — co-created by Judge and Greg Daniels — was closer to a normal family sitcom than just about any other animated comedy, usually avoiding the crazier flights of fancy and wacky sight gags seen on shows like The Simpsons.
That's not to say that King of the Hill didn't have a sharp sense of humor, or was shy about putting its relatively mild-mannered characters into odd situations worthy of the situation comedy genre. Anchoring it all though was lead character Hank Hill, voiced by co-creator Judge himself. Hank was a blue-collar Texas working man with traditional family values, values he often found tested by the unusual behavior of his son Bobby and wife Peggy. At the same time though, Hank loved his family and friends dearly, and could be open-minded when the circumstances called for it.

King of the Hill saw its ratings ebb and flow over the years, but it managed a highly impressive 13-season run on FOX, longer than most shows would ever dream of getting. Considering that longevity, one might've expected FOX to have given King of the Hill the royal treatment on the way out. Instead, the network gave King of the Hill, its cast, crew, and fans the proverbial backhand, treating its final season like garbage.
