Futurama will emerge once again from its cryogenic slumber for a newly-announced revival at Hulu. According to a release, the long-running animated series will be hitting the streaming service in 2023 with 20 new episodes.
Original series cast members Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman will all return. After reruns on Adult Swim resuscitated the show's audience, four direct-to-video films were produced, and then re-edited into Season 5 for Comedy Central--the latter network then threw the show a further lifeline for 26 episodes across Seasons 6 and 7. The previous presumed series finale aired on September 4, 2013.
Futurama earned six Emmy Awards--including two Outstanding Animated Program, seven Annie Awards, two Environmental Media Awards and two Writer’s Guild of America Awards.
Groening's other big non-Simpsons series, Disenchantment, coincidentally has Season 4 hitting Netflix on
