Although The Conners has mined four seasons of laughs out of their predicament, Becky and Darlene moving out of the family home in season 4 is an overdue improvement. It is currently unclear whether The Conners season 5 will happen, but if it does, the sitcom is already working hard to ensure that the next outing from the titular family will be a return to form. While some ofThe Conners season 4 plot lines have stalled (like Harris’s largely forgotten feud with Darlene), in the second half of the season the series has made a concerted effort to shake up its routine.
Outings like The Conners shooting episode prove that the show can tackle serious issues with grace and good taste, while the return of Chuckie Mitchell also allowedThe Conners to eulogize the late Roseanne Conner without seeming to support her real-life actor’s actions. On top of these successful outings, The Conners season 4 proved Ben could work as part of the show’s ensemble without relying on Dan and seems set to finally develop Becky and Darlene’s stories further. However, this last feat will require relocation.

According to the ending of “Gas Pump, House Dump, and Stew Volcano” (season 4, episode 16), Becky and Darlene are finally moving out of the Conner family home. Although this will mean Dan building them a new house on the site of the old funeral parlor, it is a necessary and overdue move for The Conners as a series. With Darlene’s eldest child having already moved out herself, it's only fair to the newlywed Dan and Louise that Dan’s adult daughters give them some space. However, this should also bolster both of their stories, particularly when The Conners season 4 has wasted
