Although Dan is building a house for his daughters Becky and Darlene on The Conners, it would make more sense for him and Louise to move out for two reasons. A surprising amount of The Conners season 4’s biggest storylines revolves around the titular family’s attempts to move away from home. With three generations of the sitcom’s stars living under the same roof, it is perhaps understandable that the family members yearn for some space away from each other.
No sooner than Harris moved into her boyfriend Aldo’s house to be out from under her mother’s control than The Conners saw her mother Darlene and Becky attempt to find a place together. Becky and Darlene wanted to raise their kids in a larger space and also wanted to give their newly remarried father Dan and his new bride Louise some space. This resulted in Dan offering to demolish a nearby house and build them a home, an answer that is close to perfect but misses out on one better option.

However, that home is the house that Dan (and his late wife Roseanne) raised Becky and Darlene in, and it would make more sense for Dan and Louise to get a fresh start and leave the old family home to his daughters. Not only do Becky and Darlene need a bigger house in practical terms (they have a kid apiece, and Harris may need to move back in), but Dan and Louise deserve somewhere less filled with memories of Dan’s first marriage.
