A World War Hulk movie could be where the Hulk's story is heading, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has the perfect answer for how the MCU can pull off an adaptation of such a peculiar story. Released between 2006 and 2007, thePlanet Hulk and World War Hulk comic book arcs told the story of how the Illuminati arbitrarily decided to send the Hulk off the planet, only for the emerald giant to come back months later angrier and seeking revenge. Even though it's one of the most famous Hulk stories, World War Hulk wouldn't be an easy arc to adapt, especially considering the differences between the MCU and the 616-universe.
More than a decade after The Incredible Hulk, the Hulk has yet to have another solo adventure in the MCU. Legal reasons regarding Universal's role in the making of Hulk films had prevented Disney from developing a sequel to the 2008 movie, but that didn't stop the MCU from giving Bruce Banner an arc that was spread between Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. After appearing in Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is now expected to appear in the Disney+ She-Hulk series.

If the MCU does indeed adapt World War Hulk for the big screen, then the franchise could have a problem in terms of the Hulk's current status.
