An alien invasion is about to occur and when Superman is nowhere to be found, Batman is not only going to have to save Gotham, but the world. DC Comics recently announced Batman: Fortress, an eight-issue miniseries involving an alien attack at the worst possible moment. Superman is missing and the fallout from the invasion has led to a huge crime spike in Batman's home city, forcing Bruce to push himself further than ever before.
As one of the most dedicated heroes of the DC Universe, Batman often pulls double duty protecting the streets of his beloved Gotham and serving as an integral member of the Justice League. For years, Batman was confined to protecting his usual city streets until DC fleshed out the shared universe he inhabited with heroes such as Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. Since appearing as a member of the Justice League when the team made its first appearance in 1960's The Brave and the Bold #28, Batman has alternated in his duties as Gotham’s protector and founding League member.

Now, with the upcoming publication of Batman: Fortress, he’ll have no other option but to take on both responsibilities at the same time. Announced DC Comics' blog, the series by Gary Whitta and Darick Robertson promises both calamity and mystery. “When an unknown alien ship enters Earth’s atmosphere, disrupting global power and communications and plunging the planet into chaos, the world is left wondering…where is Superman when he is needed most?” The solicitation information also emphasizes Batman’s personal struggle, revealing he “must rally the rest of the Justice League to counter the alien threat…but first, he must quell a crime wave on the
