A new piece of fan art imagines what Miles Morales’ Spider-Man could look like in the Sam Raimi film universe. Known for his work in the horror genre with the Evil Dead movie series, Raimi would also help to usher in the era of the modern superhero film with his 2002 adaptation of Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire. Earning over $825 million in worldwide box office, Raimi’s Spider-Man would go on to spawn two sequels, released in 2004 and 2007. While Raimi had intended to make a fourth film in his series, he struggled to find a script that would work, and Sony instead elected to reboot the series with Andrew Garfield as their new Peter Parker.
Created for Marvel Comics in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales is a teen of African-American and Latino descent who received his spider-like superpowers by being bitten by a genetically engineered spider in a manner similar to Peter Parker. In 2018, the character would make the leap to the big screen in the critically acclaimed animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he was voiced by Shameik Moore. Moore’s version of Miles is also set to return in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, set for release in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Miles’ existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also hinted at during the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming when Tom Holland’s Peter Parker encountered Miles’ uncle Aaron Davis.
