Rachel Zegler has been cast as the lead in a new Animated Movie called Spellbound. This musical project is being developed by Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation. It is set to follow a tenacious young princess, Ellian, as she embarks upon a quest to stop the dastardly effects of a spell that has transformed her parents into unusual monsters and threatens to envelop her kingdom of Lumbria in darkness forever.
Zegler will lend her voice to Princess Ellian as the lead of Spellbound, according to Deadline. With her breakout role playing Maria in West Side Story, Zegler firmly established her singing and acting talents. Her stunning vocals are sure to come in handy as she undertakes yet another musical part. The West Side Story actor posted to Twitter expressing her excitement over this new project with an image showing off some beautiful art of the characters and the unique grassy world they inhabit. Her followers were given a first look at Princess Ellian as she tries to wrangle up two bizarre creatures.

Zegler will be performing musical works by Academy Award-winner Alan Menken, and Glenn Slater, who will be developing the score and lyrics respectively. While there are currently no other voice actors announced for this project, Zegler is not the only high-profile name attached to Spellbound. The writers behind Mulan (2020), Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin, and The Lion King writer Linda Woolverton are behind the script.
