GameCentral readers vote on their favourite games of the previous year, including everything from It Takes Two to Ace Attorney.
Although we revealed our Top 20 games of 2021 at the end of last year, we always leave it to the end of January for readers, so that people get a reasonable chance to play what they got for Christmas. We then ask everyone to vote for their top three titles and tally the results for a Hot Topic.
With so relatively few new games released last year it’s perhaps no surprise that the two Top 20s are more similar than usual but there were a number of titles that never appeared in our chart, including Deathloop, Ratchet & Clank, and Resident Evil Village.
Best in Class It Takes Two Undoubtedly this is the best co-op game I have ever played. The last co-op game I played was Portal 2 many years ago and I didn’t think that would be beaten but It Takes Two now takes the ground. Every level introduces a new idea and mechanic and then ditches them in a very Nintendo like fashion, it really is just as good and as fun as Nintendo’s best. It also manages to make both characters feel just as fun as the other throughout the whole game. At no point did either of us wish we were doing what the other was doing, which is testament to just how smartly designed the game is. The only negatives were the characters who were just a bickering couple.
The Forgotten City I’ve never quite played anything like this game. As soon as I heard the premise about a city where everyone turned to gold if anyone sinned, I knew I wanted to play it. That premise is just the tip of the iceberg though. There is so much more to discover and how all the characters are interlinked is incredibly impressive. The best written game I have ever played.
